Testing Combat Aircraft GPS
High performance combat aircraft can perform very violent maneuvers. GPS navigation receivers destined for fighter aircraft must be able to re-acquire satellites very quickly and must be tested to ensure this capability. Naturally, scheduling aircraft time for receiver testing is a lengthy and expensive process. To combat the high cost of testing, Honeywell has enlisted the help of Busch Gardens' Kumba roller coaster. The roller coaster simulates a fighter aircraft's 3.5 to 4.5 g loadings and angular rates of up to 200 degrees per second.
