Industrial Applications

This page is dedicated to industrial GPS applications - that is, where GPS is used in some industrial process. This does not include fleet tracking or surveying applications.

Shameless begging!

In this list I will summarize applications detailed from various sources. I will try to pick a range of applications for each section. I am counting on you to send me information on your projects so that I can list them here!

Precise Pesticide Application to Crops

Declining profit margins and government regulations will require more precise documentation and application of chemicals and fertilizer. A method of precisely applying chemicals to crops was tested on sugar beets in western Nebraska.

Areas where damage has occured to sugar beets can be easily identified in aerial photographs. A differential GPS system was used to guide a tractor to the damaged areas where chemical application took place. The 9600 baud, RCTM-104 differential signal was transmitted to the tractor across an FM subcarrier supplied by a local radio station. A '386 PC with a moving map display was used to guide the tractor driver.
