Navigation DGPS Beacons
The U.S. Coast Guard is developing a DGPS service for public use in harbor and harbor approach areas of the United States. The Great Lakes, Puerto Rico, and most of Alaska and Hawaii will also be covered. The DGPS signals will be broadcast via USCG marine radiobeacons. Some stations are providing DGPS signals now on a prototype basis; however, signal availability and accuracy are subject to change due to testing of this developing service. The Coast Guard plans to complete the system
and declare it operational in 1996. Extensive information on this subject is available at the Coast Guard's Navigation Center (NAVCEN).
