Canada

Canada Center for Surveying (Geodetic Survey Division)

From the Geodetic Survey Division home page:

The primary mission of the Geodetic Survey Division (GSD) is to define and provide access to a consistent national coordinate system to which all mapping, charting, navigation, boundary demarcation, crustal deformation, and other geographic information can be referenced.

Finland

National Land Survey of Finland

From the NLS home page:

The National Land Survey of Finland (NLS) is a

leading expert in land-use and mapping services.

The NLS performs some 30,000 land parcellings

and other surveying tasks each year.

The NLS maintains the country's real estate

registers and archives and manages the national real

estate information system.

The NLS promotes the joint use of geographical

information by public authorities.

The NLS compiles and processes data pertaining to

land and the environment and also performs national

mapping duties.

NLS services are provided by offices in 40 different

locations in Finland.

The NLS head office is located in Helsinki.

The NLS has a highly competent staff of over 2,000.

Germany

Institute for Applied Geodesy (Germany)

From the IAG home page

Federal agency under the authority of the Federal Minister of the Interior Division II of the German Geodetic Research Institute (DGFI)

Japan

Geographical Survey Institute (GSI) of Japan

GSI maintains one of the largest geodetic arrays with over 200 geodetic survey points in Japan.

Norway

Norway Mapping Authority

From the NMA home page:

The SATREF project was initiated in 1989 by the Geodetic

Institute, a division of the Norwegian Mapping Authority,

as a development project with the objective of establishing

a national satellite-based reference system. The project

was carried out in cooperation with the Norwegian Industrial

Fund and Seatex A/S of Trondheim. The Norwegian Mapping

Authority was to be technically and economically responsible

for further development, establishment and operating of SATREF.

United States

Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) (US)

From the DMA home page:

DMA Mission:The Defense Mapping Agency shall provide support to the Military Services; the Office of the Secretary of Defense; the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff; the Unified Commands; and the Defense Agencies and other Federal Government Departments and Agencies on matters concerning mapping, charting, and geodesy.

Department of Defense (DoD) (US)

From the DoD home page:

The Department of Defense is responsible for providing the military forces needed to deter war and protect the security of our country. The department's headquarters is at the Pentagon.

Department of Transportation (US)

Federal Aviation Administration (US)

Federal Highway Administration (US)

Federal Geographic Data Committee (US)

From the FGDC home page:

The FGDC was established through the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-16 and charged with the responsibility to coordinate various surveying, mapping, and spatial data activities of federal agencies to meet the needs of the Nation. Major objectives of Circular A-16 are to avoid duplication and minimize costs in mapping and spatial data activities, which involves establishing standards and providing wider access to geospatial data. The FGDC also has been charged with coordinating geospatial data related activities with other levels of government and other sectors.

Federal Railroad Administration (US)

National Geodetic Survey (US)

From the NGS home page:

The National Geodetic Survey (NGS) a division within NOAA's National Ocean Service, is responsible for developing and maintaining the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS). The NSRS is a network of many thousands of precisely determined points known as geodetic control points. Most of these points are marked by metal disks about 3 inches in diameter, or a metal rod under a hinged cover. These points provide the common base of reference to correlate longitude, latitude, height, scale, and orientation throughout the Nation, and the changes of these with time, for resource mapping; transportation, communication, and defense systems; boundary and property surveys; land record systems; mapping and charting; public utilities; and a variety of scientific and engineering applications.

United States Air Force

From the USAF home page:

The Mission of the U.S. Air Force is to defend the United States through control and exploitation of air and space. The Vision: Air Force people building the world's most respected air and space force - global power and reach for America.

United States Coast Guard

National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA)

National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

United States Geological Survey

United States Naval Observatory

From the USNO home page:

The U.S. Naval Observatory performs an essential scientific role for the United States, the Navy, and the Department of Defense. Its mission includes determining the positions and motions of the Earth, Sun, Moon, planets, stars and other celestial objects, providing astronomical data; determining precise time; measuring the Earth's rotation; and maintaining the Master Clock for the United States. Observatory astronomers formulate the theories and conduct the relevant research necessary to improve these mission goals. This astronomical and timing data, essential for accurate navigation and the support of communications on Earth and in Space, is vital to the Navy and Department of Defense. It is also used extensively by other agencies of the government and the public at large.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (U.S.)

From the ORNL home page:

ORNL is a Department of Energy multiprogram laboratory managed by Lockheed Martin Corporation. Scientists at ORNL conduct a wide range of basic and applied research and development to advance the nation's energy resources, environmental quality, scientific knowledge, educational foundations, and economic competitiveness. ORNL collaborates in these activities with other federal agencies, industry, and universities.
